The October 7th, issue of ‘’Entertainment Weekly’’ praises writer/director Joss Whedon’s rag tag science fiction yarn, ‘’Serenity’’, which has become a slam dunk with fans at the box office. But check out the magazine’s interview, ‘’Starship Trooper’’ profiling handsome, talented hunk, actor Nathan Fillion who portrays Captain Malcolm Reynolds, the space cowboy hero, in charge of the space freighter Serenity and its rebel crew. ‘’Buffy The Vampire Slayer’’ fans may remember Fillion’s Satanic turn in the show’s final season, as the dark preacher aligned with ‘’The First’’ the ultimate evil force bent on ending the world. However, Fillion’s evil preacher role came well after Fillion had long paid his thespian dues, being cast repeatedly as the steadfast good guy in such films as ‘’Saving Private Ryan’’ and of course, being cast by Whedon in the shortlived TV show ‘’Firefly’’ as Captain Reynolds, which spawned ‘’Serenity’’.

Whedon, goes on to hail Fillion as the new Harrison Ford, an actor brimming with roguish charismatic charm, chiseled leading man good looks and persona, perfect at carrying off and delivering rapscalion, savvy, sarcastic wit and quips….all covering a heart of gold and solid heroics that are at the core of the film’s ensemble cast and storyline, involving a psychic heroine named River, and protecting her from evil forces bent on stopping her from establishing a ‘’new republic’’ of freedom. (Star Wars anyone!).

Don’t know about you, but we find Fillion to be utterly dashing and he can save our day…well, any day!
