Nathan Fillion Thrilled To Be A Part Of Serenity''

Writer/Director Joss Whedon’s first feature film, ‘’Serenity’’ made the Cover Story of this month’s October 2005 issue of ‘’Dreamwatch Magazine’’. Pages 30-33 offer an in exclusive interview with Whedon.

Pages 34-36 offer an exclusive interview with ‘’Serenity’’ star, Nathan Fillion, who seems more than overjoyed at the opportunity to reprise his charismatic role of Captain Malcolm Reynolds, which he first portrayed on the Fox Network’s shortlived TV series, ‘’Firefly’’, which survived only 11 episodes and then was axed. Being able to step into Reynolds’ boots and onto the Serenity deck once again, brought up incredibly wonderful memories and a chance to further challenge Fillion as an actor in a role quite close to his heart, as well as for him to further develop the character of Captain Reynolds.

Fillion says, ‘’When ‘’Firefly’’ got cancelled, I was heartbroken.’’ Three years ago, Captain Reynolds uttered what would prove to be timeless, prophetic, inspirational words on the ‘’Firefly’’ pilot, which would prove even more meaningful than Fillion, Whedon, or anyone involved with the show, could ever possibly imagine. Reynolds proclaimed, ‘’We’ve done the impossible and that makes us mighty.’’

Who knew that after Fox dropped ‘’Firefly’’, years later, it would emerge bigger and brighter on the silver screen, proof that Joss’s vision, and well, anyone, can overcome overwhelming odds and adversity, and follow one’s dreams. Of Fillion’s many stellar TV and film projects, for Fillion, ‘’Serenity’’ is a personal, sentimental favorite, that he holds very dear. As he explains, ‘’Anybody that has ever fought for something, and has lost, this movie is for them. Anyone that likes a good quality story, good characters, good dialogue, and good action, this movie is for them.’’

Fillion goes on to say, ‘’Joss has made a valentine to his audience in that Malcolm Reynolds has a message to get out and he has to get past the bureaucracy, in order to get this message across. It’s a parallel to Joss taking on the bureaucracy with Fox and, thanks to the fans, that he can do this movie.’’

Fillion, says that if the film does well enough, and Whedon pursues producing sequels, of which there could be as many as three, Fillion would ‘’love’’ to keep fans happy as everyone’s number one wise cracking, space cowboy, resident rogue, and galactic hero always happy to save the day.

Oh, by the way, Joss, Nathan, we would very much like to say, Thank You, for believing in us, and we’re looking forward to the further rag tag, rip roaring, cliff hanging adventures of the misfit ship, ‘’Serenity’’.
