Well, another celebrity takes their historic place in the bizarro world for thinking it’s so cute to curse their child with ‘’unique’’ cache’ baby names. We know about Gwyneth Paltrow’s and Coldplay’s Chris Martin’s little Apple, Moonunit and Dweezil Zappa, (children of the late Frank Zappa), Sarah McLachlan’s daughter India. Even our beloved Sir Bob Geldof is a leader on this bandwagon naming his daughters Peaches Honeyblossom and Fifi Trixibelle. Yeah you heard us right! Oh, the insanity!

Now, add actor Nicholas Cage’s homage to the ultimate Superhero and Man of Steel, by naming his newborn son Kal-el. Cage and his wife, Alice Kim, welcomed baby Kal-el yesterday morning, October 3.

For those in the know, Cage was originally cast to play Superman in Tim Burton’s feature film, but for one reason or another, Cage wasn’t chosen to fill the comic book hero’s leotard and cape. Kal-el is a nod to the Kryptonian given name of Clark Kent, alias Superman, by his biological father Jor-el while still an infant on the planet Krypton.

We don’t know if Kal-el will ever be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or use X-Ray vision, but one things for certain, with a celebrity dad and a name like that, the jet-set VIP treatment certainly is in the…stars! (pun intended!)
