Crack open the champagne!

The January 27, 2006 issue of “Entertainment Weekly Magazine’’ reports that one of our all time favorite film franchises (and comic book superheroes), the legendary “X-Men”, is poised to hopefully arrive in the glory of the 3rd film chapter of the saga, this May 2006, with more new characters than you can poke a stick at!

To say we are a fan of the “X-Men” films is more than an understatement.

The first “X-Men” film, and it’s sequel, “X2” were nothing short of brilliant, with the sequel unbelievably even topping the first film.

Turn to page 30 of “Entertainment Weekly Magazine” for a simply FAB photo of NEW good guy “X-Men 3” character, the white winged Angel, portrayed by the gorgeous, blond haired hunk, actor, Ben Foster from TV’s HBO Network’s hit series, “Six Feet Under” looking quite studly and heaven sent, sans shirt and bare chested, with full feathered wing spread, striking a pose!

TV’s “Frasier’s” own multiple times, Emmy Award winning actor, the inimitable, Kelsey Grammer also joins “X-Men 3” as the blue pigmented character, Beast (We wonder how this will play out with the sexy blue siren, Mystique? And any relation by the way?).

Grammer tells “Entertainment Weekly” that he had to endure hours of not so pleasant, highly uncomfortable prosthetics makeup and application, which he also had to survive through daily hours of filming.

Grammer also says that new kid on the block, Director Brett Ratner, who has taken over the helm for “X-Men 3” from the first 2 “X-Men” films’ Director Bryan Singer, is adding more and more characters for the 2nd sequel, and Grammer says, “There’s a ton of characters. There may be more or less, depending on how that final cut comes together.”

“EW Magazine” then surprised and stunned with curiosity (as so are we) with Grammer’s red herring statement about this being the final installment in the “X-Men” film franchise, (We haven’t heard any confirmed news to this affect at least!), delicately walks this egg shell by inquiring to actor, Foster, what about Grammer’s comment, (and is there any truth therein?) about this being the “end” of the “X-Men” films, to which Foster winkingly quips back something to the affect that Grammer must have been having a bad (not hair) but costume day, being stuck in all those prosthetics and was just blowing off steam, (we hope), about much ado about nothing.

In any event, we hope Director Ratner can keep the greatest show on cinema earth up to par, and continue to raise the bar as stratospherically as Director Bryan Singer did with the first 2 “X-Men” films.

Talk about spectacular, stellar, three (if not multi!) dimensional, character driven, magnificently written character and story development, fully fleshing out the psychological, emotional, and dare we say it, inspirational, soul searching depth and elements of the heart soaring good guy super heroes, mutants, Wolverine (Logan), Rogue (Marie), Dr. Jean Grey, Professor Charles Xavier, Cyclops, Storm, and Nightcrawler, matching them against the nefarious plans of ultra bad guys and nemesises, Magneto, Mystique, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth.

Talk about an ensemble cast, with the core cast members all reprising their roles for both films with such a genuine, on screen camaraderie, bond, friendship, selflessness, compassion, heroics, conviction, tolerance, courage, sense of duty and honor, and..love by the multi talented actors and actresses, (many being Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Award winning thespians of film, TV, and theater), including the ever esteemed venerable Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Anna Paquin, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn,….

….and of course, the absolutely otherworldly, luminous, actor, Hugh Jackman, whose magnificent, brilliant portrayal of Wolverine/Logan is the very heart, soul, and centerpiece of the “X-Men” superhero film series.

Add to this the intentional lesson for the ages allegory, regarding the intolerances and prejudices that have plagued mankind since the beginning of time, and mankind’s universal need for understanding and compassion for all people and all living beings on this planet, intelligently woven into the ongoing theme of the “X-Men” storyline all wrapped up superbly by the most magnificent Director, Screenwriter, Executive Producer, Bryan Singer, and you have ah, bravisima!

(And our hat is indelibly tipped to YOU for your wonderful touch Bryan, for also weaving into the context of “X-Men”, our favorite book of our lifetime, author, T.H. White’s “The Once And Future King”, the ultimate parable about mankind’s never ending intolerance and wars, and the how and hope for the creation of a just and kind world of universal understanding and peace), as former friend turned enemy of Professor Xavier, Magneto, is seen reading the book, and later, with Professor Xavier teaching and telling a class of mutant school children all about White’s classic parable for the ages, at the brilliant, uplifting end of “X2”.

All we can say is, our anticipation is already notched way past red on the what ever meter you can supply for “X-Men 3”.

Wolverine, (especially!), Rogue, Storm, Cyclops, Professor Xavier, Jean Grey (she better have survived for any of you who remember the ending of “X2”)!

“X-Men” United Rock!
