‘’’’Narnia’’ Film Sequel In The Works!’’

Great news for everyone who has become enchanted with the film adaptation of ‘’The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe’’!

The January 13, 2006 issue of ‘’Entertainment Weekly Magazine’’ reports that there are now official plans to develop and film a sequel to ‘’Narnia’’!

The Walt Disney Company, who produced the lush, epic parable and fable originally penned by children’s author, C. S. Lewis, is thrilled with ‘’Narnia’s’’ blockbuster $226 million domestic gross as of this week, that has put it officially on the map as one of the few films to open in 2005, (one of the worst years ever for domestic box office receipts in the history of the film industry), to overwhelming box office receipts, exceeding all revenue gross expectations.

So Disney now has concrete plans to film the 4th book based on C.S. Lewis’s seven volume ‘’Narnia’’ saga, ‘’Prince Caspian’’.

Original ‘’Narnia’’ Director Andrew Adamson, though not yet confirmed as signed on to direct, is said to be in discussions to direct ‘’Prince Caspian’’. Count on all four of the original ensemble cast of child actors who portrayed the Pevensie brothers and sisters in ‘’Narnia’’, William Moseley, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, and Anna Popplewell, to bring their sprightly, bravado magic to ‘’Caspian’’, as all have already inked an official deal and signed on to reprise their roles for the sequel.

The film’s producers are shooting for a projected Christmas 2007 release date for the movie.

We are more than applauding this news and while we previously noted in our own 12/7/2005 editorial article, ‘’Great Expectations For The Chronicles Of Narnia’’, of course the pressure is likewise on for ‘’Prince Caspian’’ to keep the bar raised just as high and stellar, if not to out do its predecessor. We are more than anticipating and awaiting its glorious release with high hopes!

‘’Narnia’’ was the only film to knock ‘’Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire’’ out of the number one box office draw position, where ‘’Harry Potter’’ had originally reigned, unstoppable (or untoppable rather!) for three weeks, when ‘’Narnia’’ exercised its own charmed sorcery, rightfully claiming the box office throne at the number one spot.

And while ‘’Narnia’’ slipped by a nose, at only a million or so, down to the number two position by the mammoth weight of Director Peter Jackson’s remake of ‘’King Kong’’, for two weeks, this past week, ‘’Narnia’’ reclaimed the number one box office spot once more and edged right past ‘’Kong’’, earning a reported $32.848 million for the weekend of Friday, December 30, 2005 through Monday, January 2, 2006!

Disney has reported that ‘’Narnia’’ may in fact become its highest domestic grossing film ever, even taking on Disney’s own ‘’The Lion King’’ amongst other favorite Disney iconic classics, to also be firmly installed as an equally iconic, film classic among the Disney catalog and legacy of timeless, family film parables that Disney is legendary for in its near century long career of film making.

As for C.S. Lewis, we hope that his kindred spirit is smiling with joy over an entire new generation, in a new millennium no less, discovering the wonders, wizardry, and inspirational messages for the ages, of his writings being brought to life on the silver screen with equal parts dazzling visual imagery and heart string tugging passion, emotion, courage of conviction, and intelligence.
