George Lucas has apparently heard the ardent pleas of we die hard purist “Star Wars” fans FOR the DVD release of the ORIGINAL version of the “Star Wars” trilogy, BEFORE it was altered, with scenes, dialogue, and characters changed by his Digitally Restored, CGI overloaded versions of the first 3 films, which were released on DVD in 2004…..
…and Jedi Master Lucas is FINALLY releasing the Original “Star Wars” trilogy, “as they first appeared in theaters” on DVD!!!!
…This means YOU will all get to see Han Solo shoot Greedo FIRST, which Han REALLY did do in “Star Wars” but then again, Greedo was such an unsavory character, he had it coming!
…And YOU will get to see the puppet versions of Yoda and Jabba The Hut, NO CGI computer overblown enhanced versions.
…Best of all, YOU will get to STILL see actor, Sebastian Shaw, portraying the spirit form of Anakin Skywalker as he appeared to his son, Luke Skywalker, at the end of “Return Of The Jedi” when the movie was made in 1983, NOT the INSERTED 2004 digital image of “Star Wars” Prequel actor, Hayden Christensen, who didn’t even play Anakin until 2 decades later, (and Christensen was just 2 years old when “Return Of The Jedi” was made!) for crying out loud!!!!
Scifi.com and Zap2it.com report that LucasFilm and 20th Century Fox are releasing the unaltered theatrical: 1977 version of “Star Wars”, 1980 version of “The Empire Strikes Back”, and 1983 version of “Return Of The Jedi” on individual, 2 disc DVD sets for each of the three films, for $30 each, this September 12, 2006!
Each DVD set will contain 2 discs, one disc being the original theatrical release version of each film, the second disc being the digitally restored version.
“Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original versions that they remember experiencing in theaters”, Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of LucasFilm Ltd., tells Zap2it.com.
“We returned to the LucasFilm archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD.”
“This is something that we are excited to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for “Star Wars”.”
While Lucas has said that the 2004 digitally restored version are in his opinion, “the definitive versions”, MANY fans, (including THIS one), like our original Jedi trilogy, to remain like a painting….unchanged as the masterful one and only ORIGINAL, INDELIBLE portrait of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Obi Wan Kenobi, and company, along with their thrilling, heroic, galactic space adventures, that have remained so beloved in our hearts and minds for 3 decades.
The DVD’s will only be available for sale until December 31, so you better buy them BEFORE they go back to the vaults!
