"UltraViolet's" Milla Jovovich Reveals Her Kick Butt, Sword & Martial Arts Techniques!

“”UltraViolet’s” Milla Jovovich Reveals Her Kick Butt, Sword & Martial Arts Techniques!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 28, 2006

In our Monday, February 13, 2006 article, “”UltraViolet Kicks Butt! Watch Coming Attractions Movie Trailer, Play Video Game, Downloads, News, & More!”, we gave you an advance look at the new Science Fiction flick, “UltraViolet” premiering in theaters, nationwide, March 3, 2006!!!!.....and its star, actress, Milla Jovovich!

Well, Jovovich just spent the last few days giving an in depth, inside look at her lengthy, hard core training and techniques for both her VERY capable brandishing of a sword (and damn well knowing how to use it against villains!), and her kick ass martial arts stunts, in various, in depth interviews, which we highlight the juiciest details of, JUST FOR YOU BELOW!!!!

One of our favorite actresses, especially in the science fiction/fantasy realm, the gorgeous, sparkling, Milla Jovovich, is back, as Violet, the bad ass martial arts Super Hero in “UltraViolet”. In case you missed it the first time, we bring you the OFFICIAL, coming attractions movie trailer, and MUCH more, courtesy of the “UltraViolet” OFFICIAL WEBSITE!!!!

Zap2it.com tells us that Jovovich trained under the guidance of Stunt Coordinator and Fight Choreographer, Mike Smith and his team at a gym in Van Nuys, California.

Jovovich learned many styles of international martial arts, including jujitsu, akido, and eskrima, a Filipino stick fighting style.

Jovovich also spent some six months learning Wushu, the “Chinese discipline of martial arts that emphasizes speed, force, and an aesthetically fluid style” from seven time Wushu National champion, Ming Liu, who is a member of Smith’s team.

Jovovich tells MTV.com that, (In Wushu), “You do a lot of sword spinning, a lot of tricks with the sword. All these fluid, floral people usually get knocked down because it’s such a visual fighting style. It was very challenging because I never had to be a dancer when I fought (in her other martial arts filled movies), and in this situation, I had to have the fluidity of a dancer, but the toughness of a street fighter.”

Jovovich also increased her strength, agility, balance, and stamina from Wushu for the film’s many roof top scenes.

Youlia Galenko, one of Smith’s team, tells Zap2it.com that, “I taught Milla how to work with the swords, because rhythmic gymnastics is all about working with apparatus, tossing it, and different elements”, (to create different movements such as) “illusion”. This technique involves, “with one foot firmly planted, she (Milla) swings the other leg back and up, inverts herself, and then completes the circle to catch a sword she has tossed in the air.”

Milla’s overall training didn’t so much focus on learning the art of self defense, but instead, on learning very fluid, “dance inspired rhythmic gymnastics” which make her character Violet move with cat like stealth, grace, precision, and powerful yet effortless looking form.

Smith tells Zap2it.com that “When she’s surrounded, the concept behind the fight is that she’s so in tune, to what’s going on around her, she’s able to anticipate the movement, and through the beautiful Wushu or rhythmic movements, she avoids the bullets.” (of the MANY guns fired at our heroine in the film!)

Smith and his team of stunt choreographers tell Zap2it.com that they even tip their hat to Jovovich, in that her adeptness and form were so superb, that some of Jovovich’s own stunt teachers suffered a few flesh wounds at the hands of their pupil, who is now very much the MASTER!

In her interviews/clips movie trailers for “UltraViolet”, broadcast on the FX Cable TV Network, Sunday 2/26/2006, Jovovich also says that she simply ADORES her red and black leather catsuits that serve as Violet’s wardrobe for the film and that the idea for them, actually came from Milla being inspired by pop stars and wanting to look and feel like one! We say, Rock & Roll, to that, Milla!

Jovovich, who has become one of the Ultra queens of female Super Heroes, taking out villains and saving the world, in such science fiction, action blockbusters as “The Fifth Element” (which we simply ADORE!), “Resident Evil”, and it’s sequel, “Resident Evil: Apocalypse”, tells MTV.com that Alice, Milla’s character from the “Resident Evil” films, (for which Jovovich is already about to start production on “Resident Evil 3”), would most likely win in a fight to the finish with Violet, saying, “Both of them are really tough and really cool. Violet could definitely outmaneuver Alice any day. You wouldn’t be able to catch Violet….(but) Alice probably, if she caught Violet, could just pummel her.”

In “UltraViolet”, Jovovich’s stunning, Violet, is a sword wielding, gun blasting, motorcycle riding, leather clad, 180 proof package of female dynamite, doing her kick ass, virtuous, evil fighting best to save the world, in this mesmerizing visual feast for the eyes, special effects extravaganza!

Combining martial arts and any weapons at her disposal, she takes no prisoners in this futuristic, explosive thriller!

The film’s story, as the Official Website tells in the plot, centers on a group of Hemophages, genetically altered humans who possess “enhanced speed, incredible stamina, and acute intelligence.” Of course, the government sees this new species of ultra humans as a threat to the rest of mankind, and sets about hunting them down and killing them all off.

However, Violet, one of these genetically, Super Powered living beings, becomes a Super Warrior, and makes it her mission to seek revenge on those who have murdered her kind.

We are certainly looking forward to “UltraViolet”, and hope that it lives up to its ever so cool looking hype, proving to be an UltraSuperior film and hit!

Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley Dish All About "Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 & 3"!

“Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley Dish All About “Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 & 3!””

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 26, 2006

The February/March 2006 issue of “Life Story-Ultimate Tribute To Orlando Bloom: Collector’s Edition” is jam packed with everything you ever wanted to know about handsome, hottie, the delicious, talented actor, Orlando Bloom!

While drooling over the GAZILLIONS of incredible, color photos of both movie and personal portraits of Orlando throughout the magazine, read up and learn the up close and personal, inside story of “Orly” as he is affectionately known by many, including his biography, LOADS of in depth, interviews with Orly discussing all of his film roles, including, his portrayal of (the ever so courageous and GORGEOUS!) Legolas The Elf in “The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy, (OUR favorite of Orlando’s film roles and we think Orlando’s finest acting to date!), “Troy”, and “Kingdom Of Heaven”, stats and facts about Orly, looks at his romance with current gal pal/canoodler, actress, Kate Bosworth (and rumored flame, actress, Kirsten Dunst!), and Much MORE!

Best of all, on pages 94-97 is a FAB inside “scoop” into the making of both “Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest” and “Pirates Of The Caribbean 3”!!!!

“Life Story” says that in an interview with London’s Radio One, Orlando dished the goods on “Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest”, set for worldwide release this July 7, 2006, as well as “Pirates Of The Caribbean 3”! Orlando told Radio One “They’ve come up with something bigger and better for the next 2 movies. They had to top the skeletal pirate thing and I think they’ve really managed it, haven’t they? There’s this sequence with a Kraken; it’s a big squid, and some other things….oh was that too much information?”

We don’t think so Orly! Go on, tell us MORE, PLEASE!!!!

Then Orlando’s lovely romantic lead and damsel NOT in distress, the ever capable of adeptly brandishing a sword, actress, Keira Knightley recently told MTV according to “Life Story” about her run ins with the monstrous squid, saying, “I had my first day back recently because we had a little bit of a break over the summer. My first day back was being dragged across the deck by an invisible squid. Invisible, because it’s being put in by CGI (computer generated special effects) afterwards. So I just spent the entire time pretending that it was tentacles everywhere, and the Director was going, “I’m a tentacle! I’m a tentacle!” It takes a little bit of an imagination. I have no idea what it’s going to look like, but hopefully it’ll be cool.”

Keira goes on to say that “I have a sword fight with TWO swords, which has been the biggest challenge, but also the thing that I’m most excited about because it’s fantastic. I was well impressed!”

As we are sure that YOU will also be equally impressed with the 2 “Pirates Of The Caribbean” sequels, now being filmed simultaneously in the Bahamas with original, “Pirates Of The Caribbean” Director, Gore Verbinski back as Captain of THIS charmed ship and the awesome ensemble crew….er…cast that again includes, actor, Orlando Bloom as dashing hero, Will Turner, actress, Keira Knightley as his resourceful lady love, Elizabeth Swann, and well of course, the always scrumptious actor, Johnny Depp as rapscallion, likable rogue, Captain Jack Sparrow, ALL reprising their roles for BOTH sequels!

We hear that while the plot is still in development for “Pirates Of The Caribbean 3” set for a release date, sometime in 2007, the plot for “Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest” will center on Captain Jack Sparrow’s attempts to put an end to a debt owed to the legendary evil pirate, Davey Jones. Should Sparrow fail, he will be forever cursed to damnation and to serve Jones, even in the afterlife.

Will and Elizabeth find that helping Captain Jack, means disrupting their impending wedding nuptials, but….argh to that silly old wedding day, when they must race to save their sea faring friend!

Ahoy!!!! Shiver me timbers! It all sounds like a treasure trove to be had and a feast for me eyes. TWO for the price of one! Mateys, we can’t be a waitin’ until the release of BOTH “Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest” and “Pirates Of The Caribbean 3”!

Until then, yo ho ho and YOU be a joinin’ me in a fine bottle of rum! Pizza and buffalo wings would be to our likin’ too and to be had for all!

Is Venom, "Spider-Man 3's" New Villain?!

“Is Venom, “Spider-Man 3’s’” New Villain?!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 25, 2006

In our article, yesterday, Friday, February 24, 2006, “Breaking News, “Spider-Man 3” Wears A Black Costume!”, we discussed and asked, what could possibly make Spidey decide to take on this NEW fashion statement?

Once more, YOU Can See For Yourself in the photo posted of SOMEBODY wearing a black “Spider-Man” costume, on the OFFICIAL “Spider-Man 3” WEBSITE!!!!

http://spiderman.sonypictures.com/

© Copyright 2006/2007 Sony Pictures/Columbia TriStar Motion Pictures: All Rights Reserved
© Copyright 2006/2007 Marvel Comics/Marvel Characters: All Rights Reserved

MTV.com reports that, this “Supposed” photo of Spidey, MAY not even be our normally red and blue clad web spinning Super Hero at all.

MTV.com says that Spidey fan boards are all aflutter, pondering and discussing that this photo in reality….MAY be of the dreaded villain, Venom, formerly Peter Parker’s “fellow “Daily Bugle” reporter, Eddie Brock,” renowned for donning a black costume!

“Spidey 3” fans’ rumor flames are being further fanned by the fact that actor, Topher Grace is confirmed as having joined the “Spider-Man 3” cast, causing fans to speculate and second guess if Grace will in fact be portraying the dastardly character of Venom, known for causing mayhem and chaos for our Spidey Super Hero! Do Tell!!

Plus fans of the original “Spider-Man” comics are well versed in the Venom character and the origins of the infamous black costume that Venom wears.

In the “Spider-Man” comics, reports MTV.com, “Originally a costume discovered on an alien planet, during the spin off series, “Secret Wars”, the suit eventually revealed itself as a sentient Symbiote, attempting to permanently fuse with Peter Parker’s body. Once the costume was removed, it attached itself to fellow “Bugle” reporter, Eddie Brock making him one of the webslinger’s most feared Super Villains.”

But, Spidey fans also note the ambiguity of the costume worn by some mystery character, seen in the photo posted Friday, February 24, 2006, on the “Spider-Man 3” Official Website, in that, it MAY….NOT be Venom, since Venom’s black costume has “white rings around the eyes and a slick Spider logo on the chest” on the costume, which the costume revealed in the photo on the Spidey Official Website, does NOT have!

So is this a photo of Venom or not?!

Is this a photo of Peter Parker/Spider-Man or not?!

Hmm….

Nothing like a major red herring of open ended clues brimming with lightening rod riddles to keep the gazillions of “Spider-Man 3” fans guessing until the film’s WAY OFF worldwide release date of May 4, 2007!

This ought to heighten fans’ anticipation and keep the Spidey chat boards lit up brighter than a Christmas Tree. Only it’s less than 365 days until next Christmas.

But YOU will have to wait 432 Days, 9 Hours, 10 Minutes, and 34 Seconds (according to the “Spider-Man 3” Official Website Countdown Clock!!!!), to find out the answer to WHO the heck the identity REALLY IS, in this photo, of the Hero or Villain clad in this mysterious black costume!!....and IS Venom even IN Spidey 3?!

MTV.com says that “Spider-Man” co-creator Stan Lee says, “Stay tuned, true believers.”

….We invite YOU to let US know who YOU think the black suited mysterious character is, in the photo!!!!

Stay tuned right here as well! Same blog, same channel, same cool “Spider-Man 3” breaking news updates!!!!

Breaking News, "Spider-Man 3" Wears A Black Costume!

“Breaking News, “Spider-Man 3” Wears A Black Costume!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 24, 2006

Extra, Extra, Read All About It And YOU Can See For Yourself In The “Daily Bugle Newspaper” on the OFFICIAL “Spider-Man 3” WEBSITE!!!!

Quoting the Spidey Official Website, “You may think you’re looking at a black and white photo. Look closely, “Spider-Man” wears a black suit in “Spider-Man 3”. Tobey Maguire returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in “Spider-Man 3”, In Theaters May 4, 2007!”

Take a GOOD look at this incredible (quoting Mary Jane Watson in the first “Spider-Man”) photo, and you will see that our usually happy go lucky red and blue clad, web slinging Super Hero, normally seen merrily swinging on his webs from skyscraper roof top to roof top, looks weary and weathered in this dark, foreboding photo, now clad head to toe in a black costume, perched upon a roof top in the cold, unforgiving, relentless rain.

Could this spell and foreshadow what lies ahead for Spidey in the 3rd film installment of the “Spider-Man” film franchise?

What gloom and doom could make our always plucky Peter/Spidey take to wearing a blacker than the coldest night, costume?

Could some insidious Uber Villain (s) have caused some horrible fate to befall our Hero...or those that he…loves?

Could “Spider-Man” be pondering Uncle Ben’s words, “With great power, comes great responsibility?”, but now know and feel the massive, daunting weight of the world on his shoulders in bearing the brunt of that responsibility?

Or…maybe, instead, “Spider-Man” just thought it was a GREAT time for a Super Cool, Good Guy, wardrobe change!

Hey, Super Good Guy, crime fighter, martial arts expert, black belt karate master, king of villain butt kicking, actor, Chuck Norris said it BEST in his infamous career defining film, “Good Guys Wear Black!”

The movies are exploding with Super Heroes who have taken up black garb not because it’s goth, or dark, or a symbol of being the bad guy anymore, but because it defines Bad Ass, Super Virtue! Why not look and feel empowered, crazy, sexy, cool, oozing being deliciously HOT, while dispatching the evil doers?!

Just ask a host of Super Heroes sporting black these days!

Check out these midnight wearing, wowing fashionistas!

....Spidey’s Super Hero comrade in arms, the Dark Knight himself, “Batman”!!!!....

....The “X-Men”!!!! (Logan/Wolverine, Storm, Marie/Rogue, Scott/Cyclops, Jean Grey, and company!)….

….Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back” and “Star Wars Episode 6: Return Of The Jedi”!!!!….

….The coolest evil bandidio fighter, EVER, the swaggering Cowboy, Chris, portrayed by the late, iconic actor, Yul Brynner in “The Magnificent Seven”!!!!

Nowadays, it’s the HEROES that have taken up wearing black as the ULTIMATE, fashion statement, in proclaiming, “You’re darn right I’m cool! Now hear this all villains and nasties! I’m gonna kick your butt because Super Heroes are here to stay to protect the innocent, make the world safe, and save the day!”

Let’s hope that “Spider-Man’s” choice for going all black on us, is the second reason we pointed out, because we would hate to see Peter/Spidey be so sad. BUT, if feeling the need to shed a tear IS the case with Spidey, maybe the film maker’s could ask Robert Smith and The Cure, (aka the Godfather of Goth/Soul Searching Despair and one of our FAVORITE music artists!) to contribute to the music soundtrack!

Whatever the reason for the costume change, we still think you ROCK Peter/Spider-Man, and we can’t wait to learn more when we see you dazzle us, rockin’ & rollin’ in “Spider-Man 3”!

"Aquaman" Recasts Starring Lead Role With "Passions'" Justin Hartley!

“”Aquaman” Recasts Starring Lead Role With “Passions’” Justin Hartley!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 23, 2006

Don’t get too used to newcomer, actor, Will Toale coming to your TV screen anytime soon in the starring, lead role of the upcoming CW Television Network series, “Aquaman”.

Zap2it.com reports that before the heavily touted to the press, Toale, could make any “waves” as the water bound comics Super Hero, the powers that be behind “Aquaman” have decided to replace Toale with the more credentialed actor, Justin Hartley, best known for Hartley’s stint on the popular, ratings busting daytime NBC Television Network’s soap opera, “Passions”.

Hartley, now cast and starring as mild mannered, twenty some year old, Arthur Curry, (aka “Aquaman”), obviously, is a more recognized and bankable face, with much more acting chops under his belt.

Hartley’s prominent stud status and fan base has already been cemented in many fans’ minds since he began portraying the character of Nicholas Foxworth Crane on “Passions”, in 2002, a role in which he has become a fixture in for over three years now.

Hartley was even nominated in 2005 for a Soap Opera Digest Award for his role and work on “Passions”.

Will Toale had originally been cast as the heroic wonder from Atlantis, when “Aquaman” was initially green lighted by the former WB Television Network as a spin off series from the WB Network’s steadfast hit series, “Smallville”, now in its fifth season.

“Aquaman” had been featured in an October 2005 “Smallville” episode, (portrayed to great affect in the episode by “American Idol” former contestant, Alan Ritchson), helping Clark Kent/Superman fight and defeat some nasty villains. That episode earned some of the series’ highest ratings.

“Smallville” Co-Creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, enthused with the overwhelming, favorable viewer response to “Aquaman”, jumped at the chance to develop a pilot and series for the oceanic, crime fighting Hero, and cast Toale (to much media fanfare), as the pilot/series’ star.

However, presumably, the spanking new CW Network, just in its initial launching stage, after merging the WB and UPN Television Networks, is hankering big time for some solid, lucrative, Super Powered ratings, with little room for risk or failure for the fledgling “Aquaman”. And with Hartley now cast in the starring, lead role, the big shots behind the CW Network feel more assured of a ratings winning hit on their hands.

Zap2it.com reports that “The Hollywood Reporter” quotes a CW Network representative as saying that, “Will (Toale) is a talented actor with a promising career, and we hope to work with him in the future. We have made a decision to go in a different direction with the “Aquaman” role and wish him the best of luck.”

We do too, Will, as well as Alan Ritchson, who we thought, made a thoroughly convincing and affable job as the water loving crime fighter! We personally wondered why even Ritchson didn’t get the role after more than proving his acting talents in making us root for “Aquaman”!

Hey….after all, it was Ritchson’s take on “Aquaman” that won over fans and was a ratings hit, in the FIRST place!!!! Are WE the only ones that realize this?!

Duh!!!!

Anyways, let’s hope that three (casting changes) times, IS the charm and that Hartley is as enchanting in the role of our Super Hero from the seven seas as actor, Tom Welling has proved to be portraying Clark/Superman in “Smallville” (one of our FAVORITE shows! and at this point, the flag ship ratings winner for the CW Network.).

"Aquaman" Cast News, "Narnia" DVD Goes Inside Making Of Special FX!

“”Aquaman” Cast News, “Narnia” DVD Goes Inside Making Of Special FX!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 22, 2006

Zap2it.com reports that actor, Ving Rhames, has joined the cast of the new “Smallville” spin off television series pilot for, “Aquaman”. The series, also the creation of “Smallville” Co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, will be part of the new CW Television Network, which combines both the former WB and UPN Television Networks.

Rhames, who is best known for his work in such box office movie hits as the “Mission Impossible” film franchise, (now about to release its 3rd installment!), and “Pulp Fiction”, will definitely bring some esteemed acting chops and cred to the new, upstart “Aquaman” pilot.

Rhames will be portraying the character of McCaffery, who tends to a lighthouse and is a guiding figure to actor, Will Toale’s, character, A.C. Curry (aka “Aquaman”).

Zap2it.com also reports that “Aquaman” may be getting a romantic leading lady, in the form of additional, new cast member, former Miss Universe, Denise Quinones, who portrays the character of an as yet, unnamed, Navy Pilot.

“The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe”, which will be released on DVD April 4, 2006, according to Zap2it.com, includes an in depth, “making of” bonus featurette discussing how the extraordinary special visual effects (nominated for an Academy Award), were created for the film.

Bill Westenhofer of the special effects crew, Rhythm & Hues, as well as Director Andrew Adamson give a great analysis of how the many fantasy animals, including centaurs and fauns were brought to life via a combination of watching live animal motions, CGI effects, and “human actors with prosthetic makeup effects wearing lime green tights” (the green tights act like green and blue screen imaging so computers can then form and fill in the rest of the animal).

Focus is given, in particular, to the special effects creation of “Narnia” star and story guiding light and centerpiece, the noble, Aslan the Lion.

For Aslan, Westenhofer tells Zap2it.com that indeed, “We went to an animal training facility. We were actually in a cage…just a few feet from a lion….with a high definition camera.” Westenhofer’s crew examined the movements of actual lions in film footage and how their muscles move.

For Aslan’s regal facial expressions, since the maned majestic figure’s voice had not yet been cast (venerable actor, Liam Neeson was subsequently brought in to fill out Aslan’s voice, and thus, Aslan’s nobility), Westenhofer says that “for inspiration, we went to actor, Gregory Peck from “To Kill A Mockingbird” (one of our Favorite, most meaningful, timeless, classic films, and film characters, EVER!).”

Westenhofer goes on, telling Zap2it.com that, “The Atticus Finch character had some of the same regal qualities that we wanted. We took traits of Gregory Peck from that movie and then took our Aslan facial rig and….built our library of shapes.”

(We whole heartedly AGREE! PERFECT choice, Bill! FYI! The American Film Institute rated Peck’s Academy Award winning performance as Atticus Finch the NUMBER ONE HERO in cinema, of all time!!!!)

The effects crew also utilized a puppet, a human stand in, and even a mechanical bull type lion, all to realize Aslan as realistically life like as possible and to imbue him with as much warmth, majesty, and nobility of character as possible.

For more on the making of “Narnia’s” special visual effects go to the 2nd Zap2it.com link below, or just buy the “Narnia” DVD! You KNOW you want to! Only a few more weeks until April 4th!

Bryan Singer & PR Machine Work Overtime To Quell Fans' Fears Over "X-Men 3's" Fate & Brett Ratner!

“Bryan Singer, PR Machine Work Overtime To Quell Fans’ Fears Over “X-Men 3’s” Fate & Brett Ratner!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 21, 2006

These last few days have been quite disheartening to this “X-Men” film fan.

For those of you who read our Wednesday, February 15, 2006 article, ““X-Men 3: The Last Stand’s” Brett Ratner Says This Is The Final Film Chapter!”, you are well aware that many fans, film industry folks, and we, are all grinding our teeth with equal parts concern and anger, that Director, Brett Ratner, who is guiding the “X-Men 3: The Last Stand”, may be laying waste to and plundering the 3rd chapter in the “X-Men” film franchise, of all merit and everything that made both the first 2 “X-Men” films, directed by Bryan Singer, so superb.

Now we hear, according to Zap2it.com, that Bryan Singer himself, at this past week’s WonderCon comics convention in San Francisco, made a guest appearance and spoke up to “console a concerned fan”!!!!???? by puffing up the merits of Brett Ratner as well as Singer proclaiming that Ratner’s “X-Men” film vision, will indeed live up to the stratospheric standards of quality, originally set by Bryan Singer when Singer directed “X-Men” and "X2: X-Men United”.

See Bryan’s comments in Zap2it.com’s article below.

http://www.zap2it.com/movies/news/story/0,1259,---27844,00.html

OMG! Now what in the daylights are we supposed to think when the former/ex director of a film franchise, who is no longer involved in any way with the current film installment on any level, wants to, has to, (or is asked by the film making powers that be), to come forth doing major PR, in defense of the current director’s abilities, to quell fans’ concerns over the matter and assure the film’s success?

That speaks VOLUMES....of dread for us!

Then we hear, according to Zap2it.com, that renowned Indie film Director and comic geek, Kevin Smith, held his own panel at WonderCon, dropping more F bombs than a sailor over his dismay at Singer opting out, and to NOT direct “X-Men 3” and leaving the mighty “X-Men” ship, in the charge of the not so in charge, Ratner.

Then we start reading press in various film and entertainment publications over the last few days, who express their own trepidation over Ratner bringing the once mighty “X-Men” film franchise to its weakened, painful knees.

Then in those same magazines, we see numerous “Superman Returns” Cover Stories, crowing about how Bryan Singer is the literal SAVIOR of the “Superman” film franchise as well as hailing Singer in the same vein as if he were (and to many, including US, he IS), the Spielberg of this generation, able to turn any turkey into a golden egg with his craftsmanship auteur directorial talents and total, hands on way of overseeing all of the film crew’s processes, work, and final edits.

We have read press that “supposedly” the main reason that Singer pulled out of directing “X-Men 3” was mostly over his distress at there being no concrete script at the time he was said to be directing “X-Men 3”.

All we can say is, horse hockey!!!! to that load of PR smoke screen malarkey!

If that were the case, then Singer never would have jumped the blockbuster success that IS the “X-Men” ship, to direct the total risk shipwreck that has become of the “Superman” film franchise which was pronounced DOA long ago!

“Empire Magazine’s Cover Story on “Superman Returns” details how the VERY REASON that Singer was lured to helm the new installment of “Superman”, was to REPAIR far worse creative problems and damage done to the man of steel’s film franchise.

From the 1990’s right up to Singer’s current 2005-2006 tenure on the newest “Superman” film, in Warner Brothers Motion Pictures’ attempts to resuscitate the “Superman” films, Warner Brothers ploughed through damn near half a dozen directors (Tim Burton, McG, BRETT RATNER!!!!), actors, including Nicholas Cage in a VERY bizarre casting hiccup, scripts, storylines, all which so majorly SUCKED, they all went in the 86 circular file!

Then….Eureka! Of course the big shots behind “Superman’s” film franchise took note of Bryan Singer’s singular sensation with the “X-Men” films and lured him away thinking, if he could develop and deliver those films so brilliantly both artistically and commercially/financially, he would be the one and only person to “fix” the very, VERY broken “Superman” films.

And what was the main thing Singer initially did when he came on board “Superman Returns”?

He tossed out the crapola script and story!

(Note: One more time in case YOU missed it. “Supposedly” the main reason that Singer pulled out of directing “X-Men 3” was mostly over his distress at there being no concrete script at the time he was said to be directing “X-Men 3”.)

Our response to that pile of you know what is, NOT!!!!

Then, get this, not only did Bryan take over the Director’s chair for “Superman Returns”, Bryan also brought with him, damn near the entire ensemble creative crew that made both “X-Men” films so stellar, including…..

…..(TAKE NOTE!!!!), “X-Men 2” screenwriters, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris!!!!

Then Singer had a brand new script and story written from scratch that would hold muster with the original greatness that once was “Superman”!

Singer also brought along “X-Men 2” Film Editor and Soundtrack Composer, John Ottman.

FYI! It’s been 19 years, since Superman last hit the big screen in the super FLOP, “Superman 4: The Quest For Peace”. The first “Superman” film helmed by Director Richard Donner was a marvel! The first sequel, “Superman 2” directed by Richard Lester, was already a step down, but overall satisfying. After that, the subsequent sequels were ALL downhill, and “Superman” became cinema’s super FLUNKY for crap scripts, writing, story and character development, acting, special effects, budget, and directing!

For you Comics/Super Hero film buffs, you know the same damn thing happened with the “Batman” film franchise. The first “Batman” film was a triumph, but the film making powers that be, in their quest to continue the franchise via numerous sequels, screwed with the winning formula, and began a revolving door of lousy and outlandish changes in Directors, screenwriters, cast, etc, and almost exterminated our dark, bat winged hero in the process, until the glory that was this past year’s, 2005’s “Batman Begins”.

Is THIS, what we have to see become of our beloved “X-Men”!!??

Will Wolverine, Professor Xavier, Jean, Scott, Storm, Rogue, Magneto, Mystique and all of our beloved mutants see themselves dissolve into a murky, botched cinema mess that even their Super Powers are powerless to stop!?

Oh the insanity!

There is an old saying. If it ain’t broke, DON’T fix it!

The “X-Men” films (with the exception of the sterling “Spider-Man” films), are probably the most superior and faithful translation of any comic Super Hero stories and characters to the silver screen, EVER, winning over fans of the “X-Men” comics and NEW fans alike, transcending over to hordes of movie goers who have become enamored of our beloved mutant “X-Men” and their personal triumphs, tragedies, and ongoing story.

Whatever Bryan Singer’s “Real” reason for deserting his “X-Men” creative baby for “Superman Returns” is, be it true love for Krypton’s man of steel, cash, more creative control, whatever!

We don’t like or agree with Bryan’s decision, but we can’t change it. BUT, if Bryan and his celestial crew all left “X-Men” behind, stranded far worse than they ever were at Alkali Lake, (which the “X-Men” were able to ESCAPE!), then maybe, just maybe, the film making powers that be should have just WAITED, a few years to go ahead with the production on “X-Men 3”, until Bryan had completed his contractual obligations on “Superman Returns” and then Bryan could have still directed “X-Men 3”.

If waiting for Bryan to come back and do the job right was not an option, then maybe the film makers should have just scrapped “X-Men 3” altogether, when the “X-Men” film franchise was still on top, and at its amazing pinnacle, with the pantheon status of “X2: X-Men United”, if the “X-Men” film franchise was only going to fall into less than capable hands and have its glory, forever tarnished.

All we can say is, we HOPE that all of this worry is nothing more than a wart, and that “despite Ratner”, as Bryan Singer tells the fans at WonderCon per Zap2it.com, that Bryan’s thoughts are that “My feeling is that it’ll (“X-Men 3: The Last Stand”) probably surprise you and be really, really good”.

http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie.aspx?m=2059518

Often, films that involve storylines focusing on animals can become unintentionally treacly, but “Eight Below” is the real deal, thoroughly heart felt and full of emotional conviction.

Based on an actual real life, true incident that occurred in the late 1950’s and was adapted into the 1980’s Japanese film, “Nankyoku Monogatari”, “Eight Below” lives up to the promotional hype and IS an uplifting, inspiring story of the courage, loyalty, and immense bond of friendship between Antarctica expedition guide, survival expert, Jerry Shepard, portrayed by the always effervescent, sparkling, actor, Paul Walker (who we simply adore!), and his faithful 8 sled dogs.

The story focuses on Shepard and his 8 trusty sled dogs guiding a scientific crew’s expedition in the farthest, most remote reaches of Antarctica. When the head scientist is severely injured in an accident (in which the sled dogs save him), and a catastrophic Antarctic storm hits, the entire human expedition crew is airlifted out, but they must leave Jerry’s heroic sled dogs behind.

Jerry struggles to go on with his life back home in the warmth and safety of the USA, while we see the dogs struggling against some of nature’s most dangerous and unforgiving elements, to survive.

But, Jerry, unlike his fellow expedition staff, can’t forget the eight brave friends he left behind and struggles to get the funds and air transport to go back to the Antarctica wilderness to rescue them.

We won’t tell you what becomes of the 4 legged hounds, Maya, Max, Shorty, Old Jack, Dewey, Truman, Buck, and Shadow, but we WILL tell you that this truly is an amazing “tail” of the immense, unbreakable bond of camaraderie of one man and his dogs and the incredible lengths that both will go to, on behalf of one another.

The exceptional scenes of the dogs’ own invincible bonds with one another as they struggle to literally stay alive when forced to stay behind are heart wrenching and touching with just the right amount of sentiment that naturally resonates with our emotions, as is Shepard’s equally heart breaking despair and frustration at leaving his fellow heroes behind and the road blocks and red tape that threaten to keep him from bringing his canine crew back home.

Kudos especially, for the casting of the underrated, but immensely gifted, Walker, in the lead role as Shepard. As with Walker’s previous resume of acting roles and films, Walker imbues his role with, and displays such genuine affability and unflinching loyalty with his dogs, that the film is worth the price of admission just to experience the utter depth of conviction, sense of duty and honor, and joy shared between these nine, all for one, and one for all, friends!

“Eight Below” is quite the sterling achievement in showcasing a compelling storyline and significantly, outstanding character driven development not only in its human characters, but in its canine characters, who are given as much attention to adeptly drawing and fully fleshing out their character detail, establishing an integral, resonant emotional connection with us, as their human counterparts are.

What a wonderful, engaging, and at times, heart string tugging story of both man and man’s best friend, overcoming even the most earth shattering odds, to survive, and to remain together, and the unbreakable ties that bond them together.

“Eight Below” offers up a truly inspirational tale. Talk about the definitive feel good movie of this year!

We give it a rating of FOUR Paws UP!

"Narnia" Sequel To Be Even More Epic, Stunning, Spectacular!

““Narnia” Sequel To Be Even More Epic, Stunning, Spectacular!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 17, 2006

Zap2it.com reports that the film makers involved with “Prince Caspian”, the already in the works sequel to the blockbuster phenomenon, film adaptation of author, C.S. Lewis’s beloved children’s novel, “The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe”, are setting out to make “Narnia’s’” 2nd film chapter, even more visually vast, stunning, and spectacular in size, scope, characters, and story!

“Prince Caspian” already boasts the original four ensemble cast members from “Narnia”, being actors, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley, and Anna Popplewell, all reprising their roles as the Pevensie siblings.

“Narnia’s” Director, Andrew Adamson is confirmed to be back on board to realize this 2nd chapter in the “Narnia” film franchise, scheduled for a Christmas 2007 worldwide release date!

Visual Effects Supervisor, Dean Wright tells Zap2it.com that, “while he has yet to receive a script, he read the C.S. Lewis novel and notes that there will be more talking beasts and (more) battle scenes.”

Wright goes on to tell Zap2it.com that, “Aslan (the noble, lion hero from “Narnia”) is back. Most of the creatures are as well, and there are new ones: The badger (Trufflehunter), the mouse Reepicheep. Again, there’s a HUGE battle scene. I know that talking to Andrew (Adamson) before he left (for New Zealand), he wants to make this bigger and better than “The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe”.”

“Prince Caspian” will see the four Pevensie brothers and sisters return to Narnia some 1,000 years since their time of rule over the land. The children, once again, ally with their courageous, virtuous, animal friends to defeat and overthrow the evil Lord Protector Miraz, and “restore Prince Caspian to his rightful throne”.

In keeping with the “Narnia” novels, Aslan will transform and vary in his features and size, adding greater emotional dimension and dynamic to his character, the centerpiece voice of reason, light, hope, courage, wisdom, and faith to the children, to the animals of Narnia, and to the ever evolving storylines.

No word yet, as to whether esteemed actor, Liam Neeson will be reprising the voice of Aslan, but we certainly hope that Neeson, one of today’s most venerable talents, decides to once more imbue Aslan with all the regal majesty and sage nobility that realizes Aslan into the emotionally transcendent all knowing, guiding Hero, that is the pillar of virtue throughout the “Narnia” stories.

Bill Westenhofer, who also worked on “Narnia’s visual effects and who will be working on “Prince Caspian” tells Zap2it.com that if the sequel lives up to expectations, that a 3rd “Narnia” film, based on C.S. Lewis’s novel, “The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader”, will most likely hit the silver screen as well!

“The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe”, which will be released on DVD this April 2006, is nominated for THREE Academy Awards in the categories of Best Visual Effects, Make Up, and Sound, garnering both film industry and fan praise and recognition!

“Narnia”, proved to be the sleeper smash hit of 2005, knocking the behemoth number one box office front runner, “Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire” out of its coveted first place spot.

“Narnia” stayed at the number one box office position for several weeks, slipped by a mere hair to 2nd place only by the force of “King Kong”, and just two weeks later, “Narnia” kicked “King Kong” back down to 2nd place, reclaiming the number one spot!

We know C. S. Lewis would be proud that his works are being discovered by an entire new generation of avid fans, and that his peerless allegory fables are at last being brought to vivid life on the silver screen, with all their epic beauty and their timeless, meaningful messages!

“The Da Vinci Code” Official Website, which is a dazzling, visual feast for the eyes with computer generated animated graphics that are as mesmerizing as the book on which the film is based, is LOADED with cool stuff, just for YOU, including,….

….a mind boggling Games section with anagrams, puzzles, and symbols, a list of the film’s characters, news, a stunning gallery area with paintings by the master himself, Leonardo Da Vinci!, the film’s storyline synopsis, you can register your email for mysterious “Da Vinci Code” news updates, and much more!

What can we say about a film that not only stars 2 time Academy Award Winner, actor Tom Hanks, but….

….also stars, Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, and Jean Reno!!!!…

….Three of cinema’s most venerable, esteemed, YOUR, (and our) favorite actors, ALL infamous for their brilliant work, portraying and creating indelible portraits of some of your and our favorite movie characters, in some of the biggest blockbuster films of recent years!

Sir Ian McKellen, of course we all know and love, for his magnificent portrayals of both the beloved wizard, Gandalf in “The Lord Of The Rings” film trilogy and as the Uber villain, Magneto in the “X-Men” film trilogy, (as well as a lifetime legendary body of award winning work on stage, screen, and TV!)

Alfred Molina, we all adore for his gleefully wicked, over the top, portrayal of twisted Super Villain, Doc Oc (Octopus) in “Spider-Man 2”, (as well as his inimitable work in a lengthy list of critically acclaimed films).

You also may remember Molina for one of his first roles ever, WAY back in 1981, in “Raiders Of The Lost Ark”, as the scoundrel who meets an untimely death after trying to steal a priceless, ancient, exotic relic from actor, Harrison Ford’s infamous character, Indiana Jones!

Jean Reno, began his career achieving worldwide critical and commercial acclaim for his roles in the Indie flicks of Director Luc Besson, in such cult fan hit films as “La Femme Nikita” and of course for Reno’s career defining, brilliant portrayal of Leon, the hit man who finds redemption, in Besson’s “The Professional”, (one of OUR favorite films!), then graduated to such box office gorillas as, “Mission Impossible”, “Godzilla”, and “Ronin”!

A refresher course of “The Da Vinci Code’s” plot, according to the Official Website, “begins with a spectacular murder in (Paris, France’s) Louvre Museum. All clues point to a covert religious organization that will stop at nothing to protect a secret that threatens to overturn 2,000 years of accepted (religious) dogma.”

Hanks plays symbologist, Robert Langdon, who along with actress, Audrey Tautou’s character, cryptographer, Sophie Neveu, are brought on board by the police to help unravel and solve the murder.

But instead, Langdon and Neveu find themselves caught up in serious danger as they learn that the murder is directly linked to the Priory Of Sion, a secret religious organization which began with the death of Christ, and the secret Catholic organization Opus Dei…leading the two crime fighters to an abundment of religious revelations and cover ups regarding Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene, the location of the Holy Grail, and more! The 2 organizations hunt down Langdon and Neveu to ensure that the world never discovers the truth behind a host of religious secrets spanning two millenniums.

WOW! Talk about mysteries, intrigue, cloak and dagger seat of your pants excitement galore, all wrapped up in this sure to be blockbuster, thriller!

Though fans, and we, are more than intrigued to see how closely the film will follow author, Dan Brown’s best selling incredibly clever, intelligent, thought provoking book, with a cast like this and lauded Director, Ron Howard manning the helm, “The Da Vinci Code” will undoubtedly prove a sure fire, stellar hit!

"X-Men 3: The Last Stand's" Brett Ratner Says This Is The Final Film Chapter!

““X-Men 3: The Last Stand’s” Brett Ratner Says This Is The Final Film Chapter!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 15, 2006

OH NO! Say it isn’t so!

MTV.com reports that according to Brett Ratner, Director of “X-Men 3: The Last Stand”, that this 3rd installment of the beloved, blockbuster “X-Men” film franchise will indeed be the final chapter and end to the “X-Men” films (spin-off films notwithstanding).

As of today, with the advent of some “leaked” photos from the “X-Men 3” film set making the rounds on the internet and causing major dissent about the film and its beloved characters from fans, the “official” title of “X3” now being coined throughout film industry trade and entertainment magazines as “X-Men: The Last Stand”, a firm “no comment” from an official representative for 20th Century Fox as to whether this is in fact the last “X-Men” film or not….

…..combined with substantial doubt and fear from “X-Men” film fans that Ratner’s vision may not “stand” up to the sterling level of the first two “X-Men” films which were both helmed by and were the superb products of Director Bryan Singer’s vision,…

….many fans and film industry mavens are pondering if this 3rd chapter is indeed the final one, or if all this is just a PR ploy to assure that fans run and plunk down their cash at the box office, assuring that “X-Men 3” will indeed be a bonafide hit, moneymaker.

Ratner, whose credentials are best known from his stints directing the “Rush Hour” comedy/action flicks, has been the object of much consternation and criticism from “X-Men” film fans, critics, (and us!) with fear that the only reason this chapter may be the last one, is because Ratner turns our adored Super Heroes into a Super turkey!

To say we have been most concerned that Bryan Singer opted out of directing “X-Men 3” is an understatement. We already knew Singer was up to the challenge, gracing us with his sterling turn at manning both “X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”, via his brilliant work as more of a Hollywood film auteur, realizing such prestigious, pedigree as his multi Academy Award nominated, and winning, outstanding character driven, acting ensemble film, “The Usual Suspects”.

The “X-Men” films’ single most integral ingredient, is the delicate balance of textured storyline and characters, of which fully fleshed out, detailed development and emotional depth are at the very core and essence.

Plus, the “X-Men” films, based on the popular Marvel Comics, are ensemble pieces, composed of many characters (ie; translating to many actors and actresses), all which need proper focus and care to be brought to vivid life, establishing a key emotional connection between them and fans.

Singer who also co-wrote the screenplays for “X-Men” and “X2: X Men United”, didn’t just make the “X-Men” films, storylines, and characters come to life, he literally made them living, breathing beings (mutants) that have powerfully resonated with fans, earning fans’ (and our) empathy, adoration, and yes, zealous love.

Well, Ratner is scurrying to diffuse doubts that “X-Men: The Last Stand” will fizzle rather than ignite a blazing fire, stating that this "REALLY" is the final, “X-Men” film, (but notice how Ratner throws in to MTV.com an ambiguous, “Well, it SEEMS to be the last of the series”), and thus will have both “closure” and go out on top, with a big “bang”. If you, (Ratner) say so!

MTV.com says that Ratner also plays down fans’ worries concerning what they see in the “leaked” photos, with Ratner telling MTV.com that they were done in the film’s early “testing process, so those photos are very, very old” and that the completed film’s “characters will stay truer to the classic comics and will vary greatly from the criticized images.”

Ya think! All we can say is SOS! When this much smoke..er….screen surrounds a film, and this far in advance to its release date (May 26, 2006), that usually bodes for some worry by the film making powers that be.

Whether this truly is the final “X-Men” film or not, obviously depends not on the hype and hearsay, but how boom or bust the film is, along with fan reaction and box office earnings.

We hope very much, that “X-Men: The Last Stand” is simply spectacular and puts all of your (and our) fears to rest, showing up all of the doubting Thomases and naysayers, (yes! US included!)

We invite YOUR opinions on what you think about all the rumors, hearsay, and valid concerns about one of your and OUR favorite film franchises.

…We just can’t help that nagging voice in our head yelling, Paging Bryan Singer, NOW!

"Serenity's" Nathan Fillion & "Battlestar Galactica's" Katee Sackhoff Exchange Valentines In "White Noise" Sequel!

“”Serenity’s” Nathan Fillion & “Battlestar Galactica’s” Katee Sackhoff Exchange Valentines In “White Noise” Sequel!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 14, 2006

We are happy to report, this Valentines Day, that two actors who have stolen our hearts are BACK, hard at work, collaborating together, in a major motion picture!

Both Zap2it.com and “The Hollywood Reporter” report that actor, Nathan Fillion, who has become quite the star, known and loved by adoring fans and critics alike, for his dashing portrayal of the rapscallion, rogue, Captain Malcolm Reynolds in writer/creator/Director Joss Whedon’s short lived, but much and long loved television series, “Firefly”, and its 2005 spin off, major feature film, “Serenity”, has been cast in the lead role of the sequel to “White Noise”.

Apparently, “White Noise 2: The Light’s” financial backer, Gold Circle Films, has a soft spot in their heart for Fillion, (as so do we!), having already cast him in “Slither”, another one of their film productions, soon to be released in theaters, nationwide.

Zap2it.com reports that “The Hollywood Reporter” says that “White Noise 2: The Light”, will star Fillion “as a man who survives a near death experience and realizes that he can identify other people who are about to die.” Fillion’s character “tries to prevent those deaths, but he discovers” that the Grim Reaper does not take a liking to Fillion’s attempts to disrupt Death’s plans.

Actress, Katee Sackhoff, also loved by fans and critics as well, for her equally dashing portrayal of “rebellious, undisciplined Viper Pilot” Captain Kara Thrace Starbuck, on the critically lauded mega hit series, “Battlestar Galactica” on the Science Fiction Channel Television Network, will portray a nurse who takes a friendly shine to Fillion’s character in the film.

We are quite happy to see this talented pair making the big leap from television to major motion pictures with ease, and receiving the recognition, great film scripts, and film roles, that they both deserve!

Especially, Fillion! We can’t help it! What a charmer! Harrison Ford and Han Solo eat your heart out. Ok, maybe not. We LOVE Harrison’s Han Solo too!

But Fillion’s inimitable gifts at making Captain Mal Reynolds his, and ONLY his, own, by virtue of his own indelible stamp and take on Malcolm’s characterization, mannerisms, emotional depth and conviction, has solidified the “Firefly”/”Serenity” Hero as both Fillion’s very own signature role, and one of TV’s and cinema’s classic, beloved, space cowboy heroes!

Kudos to Sackhoff too!

Will there be any canoodling, lip lock action from this pair in “White Noise 2: The Light”? Well they DO make a GREAT couple! Guess we’ll just have to wait and see this flick when it premieres.

And we would like to take this opportunity to say and wish from us….

…..to all of cinema’s and TV’s most romantic Super Hero couples, from Han Solo & Princess Leia, to Spider-Man/Peter Parker & Mary Jane Watson, to Jean Grey & Scott or Logan, to Superman/Clark Kent & Lana Lang, to Buffy & Spike or Angel, to DareDevil & Elektra, to James Bond & All The Bond Gals!.....

….and to ALL of our readers,…..

….We want to wish All of YOU, a Very Happy Valentines Day!!!!

May you all canoodle and snog forever with champagne, candy hearts, and happiness!

Jovovich, who has become one of the Ultra queens of female Super Heroes, taking out villains and saving the world, in such science fiction, action blockbusters as “The Fifth Element” (which we simply ADORE!), “Resident Evil”, and it’s sequel, “Resident Evil: Apocalypse”, is at it again, doing her kick ass, virtuous, evil fighting best, in this mesmerizing visual feast for the eyes, special effects extravaganza.

Jovovich’s stunning, Violet, is a sword wielding, gun blasting, motorcycle riding, leather clad, 180 proof package of female dynamite! Combining martial arts and any weapons at her disposal, she takes no prisoners in this futuristic, explosive thriller!

The film’s story, as the Official Website tells in the synopsis, centers on a group of Hemophages, genetically altered humans who possess “enhanced speed, incredible stamina, and acute intelligence.” Of course, the government sees this new species of ultra humans as a threat to the rest of mankind, and sets about hunting them down and killing them all off.

However, Violet, one of these genetically, Super Powered living beings, makes it her mission to seek revenge on those who have murdered her kind, and discovers a government plot to wipe out the Hemophages, via a time bomb. Unfortunately, Violet also learns that that very time bomb, is also a genetic creation, in the form of a nine year old boy, named Six. Conflicted by her own compassion for the child, Violet is on a race to save both her own people and Six.

We have always been a fan of the beguiling, gifted Jovovich, and find her perfectly in her element in films such as “UltraViolet” and, well, “The Fifth Element” stealing that film with her equal parts high octane powered and delicate vulnerability imbued character, Super Heroine, Leeloo, winning both the hearts of “The Fifth Element’s” Hero, Korbin Dallas (portrayed brilliantly by one of our favorite actors, the ever so talented Bruce Willis), and us as well.

We just know that Jovovich will infuse Violet with the same “Ultra” stellar, character driven, emotional conviction and depth, life that she has done with all of her acting roles.

Plus, from what we’ve seen in the commercial trailers, this film is loaded with top notch, story and character development, special effects wizardry, gizmos, and looks to be the perfect showcase for Jovovich at her always amazing, butt kicking, heroic best!

We are certainly looking forward to “UltraViolet”, and hope that it lives up to its hype, proving to be an UltraSuperior film and hit!

Frankie Muniz & Samaire Armstrong Find Terror In New Film "Stay Alive"!

“Frankie Muniz & Samaire Armstrong Find Terror In New Film “Stay Alive”!

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 11, 2006

The February 17, 2006 issue of “Entertainment Weekly Magazine” reports that actor, Frankie Muniz, our own, little “Malcom In The Middle”, and actress, Samaire Armstrong, best known for her role as Anna in Season One of “The O.C.”, are starring in a new horror flick, “Stay Alive” due for release March 24, 2006.

The teen shocker, according to “Entertainment Weekly Magazine” is “”The Ring” meets “Zathura”” and centers on, “a group of teens, (which Muniz and Armstrong belong to), who play a mysterious video game, and suddenly find themselves being murdered in the same ways as their game characters.”

Sounds delicious! In a scream fest sort of way!

We can’t wait to see both Muniz and Armstrong sink their teeth into more cutting edge, dramatic, dare we say it, terrifying roles, showing that our two little wholesome “soft twist” kids are becoming all grown up, while getting a chance to showcase their range of acting chops.

No more cutsie Malcolm and Anna! Welcome to teens gone wild in the gorefest slasher, Hell House!

Now all of you Role Playing game fans, just remember when you see this film, as they say, “It’s only a movie, it’s only a movie”!

We are such a fan of baby blue eyed Frankie Muniz, who has shown that he can transfer his star quality and talents from the small, television screen to light up the big, silver screen, as CIA Super Secret, “Agent Cody Banks”, which was such a hit with fans, that of course, Muniz reprised his mini Super Spy role in the film’s sequel, “Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London”.

And of course, you all know we think the world of cutie, patootie, Samaire Armstrong.

Armstrong made such an indelible, adorable impression on fans of “The O.C.” with her amazing effervescence, that even though “O.C.” creator/writer Josh Schwartz had initially written just a couple of episodes story arc featuring Armstrong’s character, Anna, he wound up writing and further developing Anna’s character into most of Season One to please the overwhelming response to Anna, from both Armstrong’s and “The O.C.’s” fans.

Look for Armstrong’s Anna to make a special return, guest appearance in several more episodes of this 2006, Season Three of “The O.C”, we hear sometime this April 2006!

In the meantime, prepare to be scared by the rollercoster fright ride of “Stay Alive”!

BUUUAAAAHHHHH!!!! Did we scare you!

"Spider-Man 3", "X-Men 3", "The O.C." News Updates!

““Spider-Man 3”, “X-Men 3”, “The O.C.” News Updates!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 10, 2006

Seems like the folks in Hollywood land have plenty of time on their hands, so what better to do than keeping busy, keeping YOU guessing about what’s up with your (and our), favorite movies and TV shows.

“Spider-Man 3’s” ongoing production is revving up, still adding additional cast members to the flick, the 3rd in the Spidey film franchise.

Actor, James Cromwell, the esteemed, veteran character actor who many of you know from the charming Aussie film, “Babe” about the little pig that could (and whose storyline isn’t too different from that of the “X-Men” in terms of being a statement of tolerance, compassion, respect, understanding, and peace among different living beings), has joined “Spider-Man 3”.

Cromwell will be playing retired police officer, Captain Stacy, the father of Peter Parker’s new love interest, Gwen Stacy, played by actress, Bryce Dallas Howard.

We have always had a soft spot for the talented Cromwell and are eager to see if his character will prove friend or foe to Spidey!

Heavens, by now anyone who reads our column, knows that we adore the “X-Men” films. But, when will the film makers make a final decision and stick to what they want to title the 3rd installment, due for worldwide release May 26, 2006?

So far, we have heard, “X-Men 3”, then it was officially “X3”, NOW it’s “officially”, depending on which numerous sources you read, either….

“X3: The Last Stand” or “X-Men: The Last Stand”!

This is Xasperating!!!!

Whatever! Personally, we don’t care what you call it just so long as the film rocks! But it would be nice to settle on a title, so all of us “X-Men” film fans could use a moniker we can stick with, when making Xciting conversation.

We suggest to the film makers, make up 2 teams of the film’s cast members.

One team can be the virtuous, “X-Men” mutants’ actors and actresses (ie; Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, James Marsden, etc).

The other team can be the villainous mutants’ actors and actresses (ie; Sir Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Aaron Stanford, etc).

Have each of THEM, decide on a final name for the film, count the votes from each team, and if there’s a draw, have the actors portraying characters possessing ambiguous motives, as in, are they good or are they evil? (ie; Famke Janssen, Ben Foster) break the tie with their votes!

Whichever team’s title has the most votes, WINS and have the film makers use THAT title!

Madonna put it best when she said this, (hint, NOTE to the film makers!)…just Xpress yourself!

“The O.C.” is back to the residual, usual, Marissa romantic complex, sub plot “Do I love Ryan, or do I love Oliver, or Alex, or D.J, or, currently, the late, not so great, deceased Johnny” or whatever wishy washy character, “O.C.” creator, writer Josh Schwartz brings in, whenever he wants to infuse some romantic tension between lovebirds Ryan and Marissa.

Problem is, whenever these mini story arcs introducing Marissa’s “I can’t decide if I love so and so” happen, they bring in characters that have about as much chemistry with Marissa (aka, luscious, dazzling, actress, Mischa Barton), as a wet blanket. Not to mention that the series’ storylines always become flatter than a bottle of soda left out too long.

Plus Marissa keeps coming off as a flaky ditz, who we have to raise the question, “What the hell is she thinking?” for perennially putting aside her tried and true flame Ryan (aka, super stud, sparkling, actor, Benjamin McKenzie), and giving him the major runaround, when he has remained both faithful and loyal to her throughout every one of her confused romantic dalliances with limp bad boy, toys, not to mention her dysfunctional foul ups with alcohol, drugs, attempt at suicide, kleptomania, etc, etc. etc.

Note to Josh Schwartz. STOP IT! Stop it now!

“The O.C.” always works best, via your magic formula, when Ryan and Marissa canoodle big time and make goo goo eyes at one another. So just stick with the program!

And that’s the latest from Hollywood central! Be back in a flash!

"Buffy's" Alexis Denisof & Alyson Hannigan Working Together Again!

““Buffy’s” Alexis Denisof & Alyson Hannigan Working Together Again!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 8, 2006

Married couple, actor, Alexis Denisof, and his wife, actress, Alyson Hannigan, known worldwide to fans from their days, formerly co-starring as super powered vampire butt kickers, Wesley the Watcher and Willow the good witch, on TV’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and its spin-off series “Angel”, are happy to be working together once more!

(And likewise, we are happy to see the snogging pair collaborating on screen again as well!)

Zap2it.com reports that the lovebirds, who met when Denisof was signed to “Buffy’s” third season, coming on board the infamous vampire slaying, Scooby gang, then who turned into real life, off the set romancing canoodlers, marrying in 2003, will now enjoy plying their acting chops side by side on the CBS Television Network’s prime time comedy, “How I Met Your Mother”.

Hannigan, who is a regular cast member of the series, gets to snuggle up to her hubby, Denisof, who is signed on as a guest for a story arc in which he will appear in two episodes.

The Monday night comedy, starring “Doogie Howser’s” Neil Patrick Harris is drawing raves from fans and critics alike.

While you won’t see any of “Buffy’s” extraordinary supernatural phenomena and characters comprised of vampires, werewolves, witches, or demons, performing as just an ordinary girl, doing comedy is nothing new for actress, Hannigan who has won kudos for her comedic flair in laugh fests ranging from the “American Pie” movies to a recurring role on “That 70’s Show”.

Hannigan is playing mum about the identity of Denisof’s character, but tells Zap2it.com, that, “He (Denisof), actually, just did an episode of our show. It was so much fun. It’s very funny and actually, he’s coming back for the next episode as well.”

Hannigan also tells Zap2it.com that she is thrilled to be working on the show and that a huge part of the fun of acting on “How I Met Your Mother”, is the tight bond and friendship amongst the show’s cast members, and says, “We’re so lucky. We’re having such a blast”.

Hannigan is enjoying her new acting stint so much that she is keeping her fingers crossed that the so far, ratings booster series for CBS, will do well enough to be green lighted for a second season. If so, she says she’s happy to stay on board, this stellar, well written show that has resonated with many viewers for its sparkling charm and knack at tickling the funny bone!

We also hear that Hannigan is keeping quite busy, with acting roles in a slew of upcoming films, including, “Date Movie” scheduled for a February 17, 2006 release date in theaters nationwide.

We are also looking forward to Denisof having the opportunity to further show off his acting talents in future film and TV projects!

Hannigan and Denisof may always be Willow and Wesley to their devoted “Buffy” fans, but we are very much looking forward to more amazing acting work from this talented twosome, whether they perform together, as in this rare treat, or in their own, separate projects. Whether they do comedy, drama, or more supernatural adventures, we don’t care, it’s ALL good!

Yeah, we know you’ve heard us use this expression frequently, but hey, it’s just a few days off to Valentine’s Day and we just can’t resist, so….

Alyson and Alexis sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G!

"Xena's" Lucy Lawless Lays Down The Law & Kicks Butt On "Battlestar Galactica"!

“Xena’s” Lucy Lawless Lays Down The Law & Kicks Butt On “Battlestar Galactica”!

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 7, 2006

Actress, Lucy Lawless, infamous to a worldwide fan worshipping community for her career defining role on the 1995-2000 run, television series, “Xena: Warrior Princess”, as well as for guesting on a host of other classic, cult, fantasy and science fiction TV series, such as “The X-Files”, “Veronica Mars”, and “Tarzan”, is now adding another feather to her cap as the warrior princess, if not the warrior queen of the sci-fi/fantasy kingdom.

Zap2it.com reports that Lawless is joining the cast of the Sci Fi Channel Television Network’s hit, updated version and series of the 1970’s TV series, “Battlestar Galactica”.

Lawless will be reprising her role as wolf in sheep’s clothing, D’Anna Biers, a Cylon spy, infiltrating and passing on classified information about humans and the starship’s crew, to the dreaded, evil Cylons, while posing as a human journalist doing an investigatory article about alleged criminal offenses by the crew that caused the death of innocent civilians.

Lawless is confirmed to appear in ten, upcoming episodes of “Battlestar Galactica’s” Season Three, and will also be making a guest appearance on the Friday, February 24, 2006 episode as well.

Lawless, of course, rose to fame or rather infamy, and stole the hearts of both guys and gals alike, as the sexy, butt kicking, Amazon Princess Xena. “Xena: Warrior Princess” was the story of ancient mythology times, Lawless’s character, the heroic Xena, taking on and taking out major villains from Greek, Roman and various other world mythologies.

Each week and each episode saw Lawless, as Xena, dispatching the nasties, while wearing little more than a female gladiator bustier and mini skirt of sorts.

Using martial arts, swordplay, smarts, savvy, and major moxy, she took no bull from any villain and could hold her own with any male warrior and with her sometimes guest, virtuous gladiator, Super Hero ally, son of the Greek God Zeus, (and crush like canoodling love interest), Hercules, portrayed by actor, Kevin Sorbo.

Indeed, it was Sorbo’s own simultaneous starring hit, cult 1995-1999 run, TV series, “Hercules”, based on the ultimate hero in Greek mythology, that first featured Lawless in the character of Xena.

Lawless’s Xena captivated so many, that she received her own spin off, self titled series, “Xena: Warrior Princess” which like “Hercules”, was a smash hit, both in its initial run and in repeats, regularly running in syndication.

“Xena” made Lawless, who hails from New Zealand, an international star and icon, and the stunning actress has since built upon her fan following with regular, additional work in cult TV series after cult TV series.

As for “Battlestar Galactica”, to say that the millennium version now airing on the Sci Fi Channel Network is a galaxy apart from the original 1970’s version that originally aired on the ABC Television Network, is an understatement.

The 1970’s version starred actors Lorne Greene and Dirk Benedict, and became infamous not necessarily for the right reasons. The bloated show was chock full of cardboard, scene chewing acting, laughable dialogue and plots, hilarious costumes and sets that looked like they were made on a dime store budget, and it contained more cheese than all of Kraft® foods!

The current HIT version of “Battlestar Galactica”, has become the number one ratings booster for the Sci Fi Channel Television Network and boasts the talents of the most venerable Academy Award nominated actor, Edward James Olmos (from TV’s equally infamous cult classic, “Miami Vice”, and such esteemed films as “Stand And Deliver”), and the equally venerable actress, Mary McDonnell (from such prestigious Oscar® winning films as “Dances With Wolves” and the box office science fiction blockbuster, “Independence Day”).

This time around, the new and improved “Battlestar Galactica” is amped up to the max, pleasing fans and critics alike with stellar, intelligent writing, sterling, detailed character and story development, and a major budget that allows for eye popping, dazzling costumes, sets, and special effects!

So what’s in store for the crew of “Battlestar Galactica” and what nefarious web will this treacherous Cylon mole spin? Hmm.

We can’t wait to see Lucy Lawless lay down the law on “Battlestar Galactica”!

Actor Ben Foster Discusses Life As "X-Men 3's" Archangel!

“Actor Ben Foster Discusses Life As “X-Men 3’s” Archangel!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 6, 2006

VH1.com has a simply FAB interview with rising new star, actor, Ben Foster (who you may know from his role in HBO’s TV Series, “Six Feet Under”), who discusses collaring and working in the coveted role of Archangel, the newest character to come on board the “X-Men” film franchise, appearing in the films’ 3rd installment “X3”, set for worldwide release on May 26, 2006!

If Foster’s face seems familiar, it’s probably because that while he may be new to the “X-Men” films, he certainly is no newcomer to acting, and he already has a substantial resume and body of work.

Foster has made a name for himself, honing his chops as an actor since he was just sixteen years old. He also may register with many folks for the list of villainous, nasty characters that he has portrayed.

You may remember Foster for scaring the daylights out of you, portraying a psycho in “Hostage” starring Bruce Willis. He also has won accolades for his “Trainspotting” like, evil junkie role in the new film, “Alpha Dog” which recently debuted in its first screening and won kudos at The Sundance Film Festival and will be released nationally, shortly.

But landing a pivotal role in “X3”, and thus being a part of a blockbuster box office proven gorilla that prides itself with intelligent, brilliant, in depth, writing, acting, directing, character and story development, is many an actor’s dream come true, and Foster rightfully recognizes the impact his role as mutant, Archangel, may have on furthering his career in a major way.

Foster seems pleased as punch to have landed Archangel, telling VH1.com, that, “I just get to fly around all day. I think the fans are gonna be pleased.”

“X-Men” fans know Archangel, also by his given name, being Warren Worthington III.

Archangel/Warren, however, is a mutant, that like “X-Men’s, central, main, core character, the mutant Super Hero Wolverine/Logan, whose entire natural bone skeleton is covered in and encased by an indestructible metal alloy, Archangel also possesses super, extraordinary physical super powered characteristics, of which not all, come naturally.

Archangel suffered the amputation and loss of his own natural born wings, only to be given a set of new, artificial, metal ones, thus Angel, became, Archangel.

VH1.com, Foster, (and we), don’t want to spoil the plot, giving away too much. But it appears that in the case of Archangel, looks and names…may be deceiving.

Will Archangel prove a heaven sent Angel, or a Devil’s fallen Angel?

The plotline of “X3”, focuses on a so called “cure” for mutation, which is created, and thus, spurs the ultimate war between Professor Charles Xavier’s virtuous mutant “X-Men” who try to save the world from the evil mutant armies of Xavier’s fallen, former friend, turned evil incarnate, Magneto, who sees this “cure” as a way for the prejudiced intolerance of many humans to rid themselves of mutants’ natural born characteristics and “control” mutants within society.

Who and which side, will Archangel join forces with? Professor Xavier’s “X-Men” Super Heroes, or Magneto’s Super Villains?

We also hear that the resurrected Dr. Jean Grey, who sacrificed her life to save her “X-Men” friends in “X2”, may return in a newly morphed form, known to followers of the “X-Men” comic books as the “X-Men” character, Phoenix.

Like Archangel though, Jean’s former self, may, or may not return in its former, heroic, fighting on the side of good, form.

Can it be true? Will Jean, the pillar of selfless virtue, ally with…Magneto?

VH1.com excitedly asks Foster about Jean’s possible evil transformation, to which Foster replies, “I can’t say these things. I don’t believe in villains, just damaged people.”

Foster tells VH1.com that the majority of this 3rd “X-Men” film installment, the first one to be directed by Brett Ratner (the first two films were directed by Bryan Singer), is completed, but a few re-shoots still need to be done and says that “The first scenes that we’ve seen look spectacular”.

Do tell, Ben! Spectacular you say! Like we would Xpect anything less from anything having to do with the “X-Men” films!

Foster says that YES, he does do all his own stunt work, as so do actor, Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, and actress, Halle Berry as Storm and that the flying scenes are one of his favorite things about working in the role of Archangel.

Foster Xstatically tells VH1.com that, “My favorite action scene playing Angel was my first flying scene. The cool thing about this particular “X-Men” is that we’re doing our own stunts. So if you see Halle Berry flying through the air, or you see (Hugh Jackman), if you see him moving entirely too fast, or if you see me flying, that’s us doing it. We’re using some of the most cutting edge wire work available, so I was doing 80 foot drops headfirst, attached to basically just a jockstrap and a metal wire. Free-fall to fly”.

Foster also tells VH1.com that he is having such a blast (who wouldn’t!) working on “X3”, that if this 3rd film chapter proves successful and spawns yet more “X-Men” films, that you can count him in, if the filmmakers ask him to continue his role.

Like all of us, Foster says that the amazing, thoroughly detailed and fleshed out character driven writing, story, and yes, characters, of “X-Men”, have made this a career highlight for him that he will be happy to continue.

As Foster tells VH1.com, “I think the success and longevity of “X-Men” is the characters, and if they’re true to the comic book, this could go on for a very long time.”

We couldn’t agree with you more Ben and we too are more than waiting with baited breath and heightened anticipation to “X3”,which we just know will be positively Xtraordinary!

"Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix" Begins Film Production Monday!

“”Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix” Begins Film Production Monday!”

By Arlene R. Weiss © Copyright February 4, 2006

Ok Harry Potter Fans! You can start jumping up and down now!

VH1.com and Zap2it.com both report that the film adaptation of author J. K. Rowling’s fifth chapter in the “Harry Potter” novels/saga, (and film franchise), “Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix”, will begin production, this Monday, February 6, 2006!

Shooting of the film will be done at Leavesden Film Studios in England (Harry would be proud!)

To ensure the magic, winning spell and formula of all four of the previous “Harry Potter” films, the entire ensemble cast of actors and actresses you have come to know and love, ARE back, all reprising their beloved, classic roles!

Actor, Daniel Radcliffe, but of course, is back, starring as the ever maturing Wizard in training, Harry Potter!

Actress, Emma Watson, and actor, Rupert Grint return as Harry’s loyal friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

To freshen things up a bit though, the newest in the “Potter” films sees David Yates filling the Director’s chair and writer, Michael Goldenberg working on the screenplay.

Look for Academy Award nominated actress, Imelda Staunton portraying the character of Defense Against The Dark Arts Teacher, Dolores Umbridge.

Other newbies to this fifth Potter film installment include, actor, George Harris as Kingsley Shacklebot, actress, Helen McCrory as Bellatrix Lestrange, actress, Natalia Tena as Nymphadora Tonks, actress, Kathryn Hunter as Mrs. Figgs, and actress, Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood.

The main premise of the film will focus on Harry’s attempts to convince his friends that the evil Lord Voldemort is still alive and once more, preparing to cause chaos and disaster for Harry and his allies. Hogwarts’ Headmaster Professor Dumbledore’s union of virtuous wizards, The Order Of The Phoenix, and Harry’s own alliance of evil fighting wizards, Dumbledore’s Army, must prepare to do battle and defeat Lord Voldemort.

We hear Harry FINALLY gets to canoodle and play the romantic leading man with his new gal pal, Cho Chang.

Our Harry IS growing up! Can’t wait to see him in a lip lock with Cho!
