Get out your black as midnight gothic garb, black eyeliner, black nail polish, and get ready to rock and mope!

Billboard.com reports that Robert Smith and company, The Cure, will be ‘’Back In Black’’ to quote AC/DC, in the recording studio this January 2006 to begin work on a new studio album.

Robert Smith, on the band’s official website, www.thecure.com, tells fans, ‘’We are still on course for a summer release, as it’s all in the preparation.’’

The album, still to be titled, is the follow up to the band’s self titled 2004 album on Geffen Records, which won raves from critics and fans alike and saw a resurgence in the band’s stature, with both Smith and The Cure being name checked as a major influence on and by a slew of younger, current artists.

This led to The Cure’s highly successful 2004 Curiosa Tour, an international, festival style tour which The Cure headlined on a main stage while helping to showcase a bevy of Indie, up and coming bands on several other stages, including Muse, Mogwai, Cursive, Melissa Auf der Maur, The Rapture and more to great acclaim.

The new album will not feature guitarist Perry Bamonte and keyboardist Roger O’Donnell, who departed the band early this year without explanation from the band’s reps. Since, The Cure’s former guitarist Porl Thompson has been brought back to the fold and will be involved with the new record, which will feature Cure veterans, bassist Simon Gallup and drummer Jason Cooper.

The band has also received laudits from rabid fans and critics alike, regarding its painstaking to detail, lushly packaged, sterling reissue series of its entire, chronological, back catalogue of albums.

Following the stellar reissue release of this past year’s iconic gems, 1979’s ‘’Three Imaginary Boys’’, 1980’s ‘’Seventeen Seconds’’, 1981’s ‘’Faith’’, and 1982’s ‘’Pornography’’, next up for reissue/release are 1984’s ‘’The Top’’, 1985’s ‘’The Head On The Door’’, and 1987’s ‘’Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me’’.

Also, salivating Goth fans everywhere can really get their ya yas out as Smith and longtime friend/collaborator, bass player Steve Severin of Siouxsie And The Banshees, will be remastering and reissuing their one off album, ‘’Blue Sunshine’’, from 1983, recorded by the 2 when they were working in their infamous side project/duo, moniker known as The Glove.

The next crop of various reissues are all due to drop this Spring, 2006.

The remasters/reissues so far have contained a treasure trove of extras including 2nd companion CD discs containing rarities, B sides, demos, outtakes, and live recordings, plus extensive and glorious liner notes and photos from Smith himself.

Smith also is said to be working on a DVD of live Cure performances from last summer, and composing some music for a motion picture. (The Cure already have written and recorded songs for the films ‘’The Crow’’ and ‘’Judge Dredd’’).

The past few years have proved quite fruitful and successful for The Cure, re-emerging to prominence as one of rock music’s most seminal, influential bands, with The Cure’s 2004, comeback of sorts album, headlining and stealing the show performing at 2004’s Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival in Indio, California, major appearances in the United States on shows such as ‘’The Tonight Show’’ and ‘’Jimmy Kimmel Live’’, a worldwide tour, being honored and covered by the likes of new Indie band, 311, who had a major hit single with The Cure’s own hit, ‘’Love Song’’, and this past July 2005, The Cure performed at the Paris leg of Live 8!

We have a big time soft spot for The Cure and the most inimitable, multi-talented singer/songwriter/guitarist extraordinaire, Robert Smith. So we can’t wait for all of the yummy music goodies, soon to be released, galore! Galore, why that would be the name of their Greatest Hits album and aptly titled!

We also want to wish everybody, from us, and we would also like to think from The Cure, since today is Friday, that who ever, or whatever your passion is, well as the song says, that all of you feel that and sing ‘’Friday I’m In Love’’!
