We are sad to report that talented, esteemed, actor, Glenn Ford, beloved and well known to many fans for his wise and loving portrayal of Jonathan Kent, the adoptive father of and pillar of strong moral fiber to Clark Kent (aka Superman) in the original, first, "Superman" movie, in 1978, starring the also late actor, Christopher Reeve, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2006 reports The Associated Press.

Ford was a respected fixture in Hollywood who maintained a 5 decades long career, appearing in such classic films as "The Blackboard Jungle", "Gilda", "The Big Heat", and the original movie version of "The Courtship Of Eddie's Father".

Ford, who had suffered ill health due to suffering several strokes in the 1990's, passed on from natural causes and was 90 years old.

Ford, who made a career out of playing heroic, wise, role models, especially as the wisdom imbued and imparting Jonathan Kent in "Superman" and as the dedicated teacher who becomes a mentor to his students in a crime ridden, urban high school in "The Blackboard Jungle", will be missed.
